Browser local storage, not a cookie. The difference matters: cookies are attached to every request your browser sends to the server, whereas local storage stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.

Who can see it

Only you. It is not sent to us, to our hosting provider, or to anyone else.

Storage on your device is regulated in the UK by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, usually shortened to PECR. PECR requires consent before storing information on someone else's device, with a narrow exemption where the storage is strictly necessary to provide a service that the user has explicitly requested.

Remembering a display preference that you set yourself, by clicking a button whose only purpose is to set it, sits squarely inside that exemption. The Information Commissioner's Office gives user preference settings as an example of storage that does not need consent. Asking for consent to remember the choice you just made would be slightly absurd.

The important point is what this exemption does not cover: analytics, audience measurement, advertising, and anything that builds a profile of you. Those always require consent, which is why this site does not do any of them.

For the avoidance of doubt, and because this is the part most people actually want to know, none of the following are present on this website:

• Analytics of any kind. No Google Analytics, no Google Tag Manager, no Vercel Analytics or Speed Insights, no Plausible, no Fathom, no Matomo.
• Advertising and remarketing. No Google Ads tags, no Meta or Facebook pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no TikTok pixel, no conversion tracking.
• Behaviour recording. No Hotjar, no Microsoft Clarity, no session replay, no heatmaps, no scroll tracking.
• Third-party embeds. No embedded Google Maps, no YouTube or Vimeo players, no social media feeds, no chat widgets, no booking widgets, no reCAPTCHA.
• Third-party fonts. Our typeface is served from our own domain. It is not loaded from Google Fonts or any other font service, so reading this page does not disclose your IP address to a font provider.
• Fingerprinting. We make no attempt to identify your device by its characteristics, which is the technique some sites use to track people without cookies.

The practical effect is that browsing this website is close to anonymous. Our hosting provider necessarily sees your IP address in order to send you the page, in the same way the postal service necessarily sees an address to deliver a letter, and that is described in our privacy policy.

The form on our contact page sets no cookies either. It does not remember what you typed between visits, it does not save partial drafts, and it does not tie your submission to any earlier browsing.

It does include a hidden field that real people never see. If it comes back filled in, the submission is from an automated bot and we discard it. This is a standard anti-spam technique, it stores nothing on your device, and it is the reason this site does not need to inflict a CAPTCHA on you.

You do not need our permission and you do not need to ask us. Your browser gives you full control:

• Clear it. Clearing site data or browsing data for ipasuk.com in your browser settings removes the theme preference. The site will simply use its default appearance next time.
• Block it. Blocking site data for this domain also works. The appearance toggle will still change the theme for the current visit, it just will not be remembered afterwards.
• Browse privately. A private or incognito window discards it when you close the window.

Nothing on this site breaks if you do any of the above. There is no degraded mode and no nagging.

If we ever add analytics or anything else that requires consent, we will implement a proper consent mechanism first. That means it will be off until you actively agree, refusing will be as easy as accepting, and nothing will load before you have chosen. We will not quietly amend this page and treat your continued use of the site as agreement.
